It was a quite strange lair with all turtle brothers off doing individuals solo quests to lord knows where. And April missed the eager greetings of Mikey and Don and then the hours locked away in the lab watching her brainy best bud work on something or other or more like several something or others simultaneously.

"Master Splinter?" she calls out quietly into the gloom of the lair wondering what if any sort of training session would be in store with the place so quiet. Lately it had been lots of mental focus and concentration and listening. Which she found somewhat boring but also in a ways intriguing. Wow and even Leo seemed to be away now.

Splinter had just finished communing with one Dr Rockwell.

the mutant monkey man had been eager and also somewhat furious to learn that perhaps his old colleague them captor had not actually been killed those few years back and had used materials gathered at sights where he had previously fought Splinters turtle sons and indeed faced off with Splinter himself to create


clones


he tried to picture what the little ones looked like, and imagined his own sons as three year old toddlers.

it was a no brainer for the Mighty Mutanimals to all agree to a expedition in knowledge finding.

- and he was just returning to his more conscious thoughts when the soft curious voice of April came to his ears. "April I am in the dojo." He calls back just loud enough for her to hear not a true shout. "Come in here."

Knowing she missed seeing her friends, and especially Donatello. Perhaps she too would enjoy a fact finding mission and and maybe whatever they find she could take out to Leo personally.

he had used his Tphone to send Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo messages to update their status and that Leonardo was currently on the farm. Perhaps one or more would be in touch and or head out to join Leo and his unexpectedly found female companion and the little turtles.

Heading towards the dojo glad for at least the familiar and warm presence of Splinter was still here!

" Sensei" she greets hurrying over and bowing politely before kneeling down to sit with the tall rat mutant s,idling. "it is so very unnaturally quiet in here." she comments with a sigh, maybe subtly hoping that he had news for her. "Leonardo on patrol?"

usually with just Leo having been home lately it meant many sessions of katas with him, the odd patrol or two, she got the sense he was as bored with his brothers prolonged absence as she was and missing them. A lot. She hoped soon their individual solos would be over soon and be home.

For all their sakes, even Casey was bored out of his brains with no Raph to go bust heads with or Mikey to hang with.

Watching the young woman approach heart warmed and glad to see her here, knowing she and Leo did their best to hang out - even with Casey but it just was not the same.

"Yes, far too quiet." He agrees returning her bow tail coiling around his seated self. "And no Leonardo retreated out to the farmhouse upon a text from one Dr Cluckingswortj MD. found himself in quiet a situation, I just got done talking to Slash and the rest of the Mighty Mutanimals if you wish to join us in a quest of sorts for some information." He sighs. "Know we'll have a the monkey along but wish Donatello was going with us." He adds checking his tphones no messages from his sons yet.

This surprising news took her back and April blinks. "he's at the farm house?"

Oh no... She would have to call Leo and warn him about Erica, the girl had rang a fortnight ago frantically asking if she and Elena could retreat to the old sanctuary upon Ida's words. Aprilagreed, her friend had sounded serious and desperate and wanted to go into hiding.

and if Leo is out there...

Maybe the leading turtle was laying low? Out of sight?

which ever she fretted for the guy clad in blue and missed a bit of what Master Splinter said about Leonardo finding himself in a situation. But she caught the rest about Slash's team and a mission? - "really!? Let's go! - I I mean.. Uh..." she grins sheepish, "I'd enjoy some fact finding." like Splinter checking her phone to see if any of the brothers had been in touch at all.

Her eagerness was appreciated.

"Thank you, we would greatly enjoy having a rounded group of six for this venture to where my king had taken his final fall from grace." Splinter nods, "it will be you and I and the mighty mutanimals on this journey. Leonardo has discovered Falco has beenbeen involved in a project since last we knew and it would be helpful to him if we could learn as much as possible to discuss with him over the phone or if you feel up to a trip taking what we find out to him personally."

Well she could go up there...

"huh I think that would be great - be nice to catch up with - uh I mean see the place and Leo." And catch up with her friend, find out why she was hiding, why her families home and cafe had been burned down, sure she knew why as she had ran away mere days before it happened.

Though news on Falco surprised her. 'Really he is still... alive then?"

"As far as I can tell he has survived at least a while since our last encounter yes." Splinter nods his face grim. "But at least he has not since attempted to wrangle his way into my mind controls since and thus so far gone unnoticed by us. Or made another attack on a city with the army of rodents." He shrugs a little. "But he may have allies - in fact considering what we are looking for information on I can be reasonably assured indeed there is allies and they may be dangerous." Histail flicks as he thinks. "Hmmm it is almost time. Come let us head out and met the Mutanimals and get started. The sooner the better."

[size=100]The trip itself out into the warehouse districts of New York's city seeking and searching with the honour guard of Leatherhead, Slash, Dr. Rockwell and Pigeon Pete with them both keeping company and careful watch over Splinter seeing as their quarry had been Dr. Rockwell.

They did not find him. But did find their way to a warehouse and found the unassuming lone stationed little building among bigger buildings the great big turtle and gator mutants making quick work of the fence and then door - inside had not been much clean white walls, sound proofed, cupboards and fridges and a long set of desks end on end a few computer monitors and a few towers with them, neat, new, a 'rooster' of sorts showing only five men were ever on work here, Dr. Falco's name causing Splinter anger, and Dr. Rockwell, the others unknown though Splinter knew they were of Japanese decent. A fifth was unknown and nothing special a Jerry something with intern titling.

They had found some information on his sons, samples taken and the mark of the Foot so he was aware of how samples had come about. And samples of the Foot mutants also, his own sampling was smaller, thankfully or no doubt would be more giant rat monsters on the lose. they found shells, piled into a box, most the great shards might have been mere dust, some small chucks but one large red egg in halves. they found some pictures. Splinter had at first gasped, if not for the brightness of colors and a few differences he might have thought it was his sons again. The group left the warehouse almost as they had found it, taking the box of egg shells a harddrive, the photos and the list of names. Slash and Leatherhead had pulled the fence back into pace jamming it up in place and they left chatting.

Now...

Splinter looked over the photos tracing the little faces, he had sent messages on the tphones to his solo questing sons to return home. Sitting with April - having meditated and brought her tea as she went through the hard drive and put the great oval shaped red egg together - the others they had down their best to piece together as they were not whole and now adorned the dojos shelves beneath the shelf holding his photo of himself as a human, Shen and Miwa the babe, the glass bowl another glued together relic that had been his now grown sons first little home as hatchlings. The red egg was the last. There was half a cyan one, three thirds of a violet one and two ends of what would have been a golden shell. "Off tomorrow for the Farm?"[/size]

"Yes soon I will, if one of the guys comes home maybe we'll take the shell raiser or the roadster maybe - if not I'll book a bus ride and call Leo and or Erica to pick me up from the larger town." April answers smiling glancing up at the gentle kind fatherly rat holding the two shell sides together. "I... have a friend I can talk about the guys so openly with... a female friend." She adds chuckling thinking of rough loud Casey and his brotherhood best bud ship with Raphael.

"I am looking forward to sharing all we found of the little turtles with her and Leo in particular. Maybe Casey will come with." she adds. She had sent him a message too.

Nodding Splinter gave his tail a slow unfurling flicking and curled his goat of white chin fur around a finder slowly. "I see, well you travel safely either way. I... do not think any of Leonardo's brothers will be joining us so if you take the bus you pack well for a trip and make sure if Erica and Leo are unreachable you have a safe way to get out to the farm without too much trouble." He tells her firmly, concerned for her safety knowing she was probably going to be travelling alone. "If Casey is not in touch til you are on your way please tell him to come through here first." To fill the young hot headed vigilante on what details they had and to arm him for a trip also.

He reaches hands to take the largest of the eggs and the only hole one. The red one slipping the glossy surface from her fingers to place carefuly on a old up turned jar lid. He and April had clean found then cleaned four three cradling the other more fragmented shells, the last now as Splinter carefully settled the red oval shape into place would hold the old complete one. He looks at his 'shelf' the top incense and the photo of himself and his sons, another landscaped his sons, April and Casey. The first home his sons had known as hatchlings cracked and a single piece missing to the side, the next shelf down his black and white photo of Miwa cradled by Shen himself standing proud with them.

and the next shelf now sported the bright colored eggs. "They were meant to be found by us." He says beginning to clean away the mess the two of them had made in piecing what they could together.

"Yeah they were." April's eyes followed the Masters to the shelves. "No we just got to make sure we keep them." She chuckes and crosses her heart. "I will be careful on the trek Sensie - I will, and called both you and dad when I get to the farm." She promises. Because she knew both her father and Splinter would worry themselves to death until she did call them once she had reached the farm.

She takes back out her phone to get photos of the shells and even her hand resting against the red one for size comparison. Making sure the flash was going to get the bright colors. "Can't wait to show Leo and Erica all we found, and see these little guys for myself." She enthuses thinking about Casey. "Casey if he joins us will be blown away." She giggles.

A grin and Splinter nods. 'It would be amusing if he faints again." He winks whiskers twitching a little. Tail curling. He finishes up the packing of the craft supplies, the glue back in the repaired little box it was kept inside in the larger box and pats her shoulder. "Well we should both rest - you may have a loooong trip ahead of you and I may have a loooong wait." He smiles.

Patience. Always patience.

"Come then lets get you home before Kirby worries." He stands reaching a hand down to hep her up and gesture for her once on her feet to lead the way.

Oh yeah! a solo mission - on his own! out in the middle of nowhere!

It had been exciting. And very lonely. He sighs as the train, his last ride shots around a bend the track quickly loosing itself in the city. Don hung on tight waiting for the moment to come he could hop off and head underground. Head home finally. Looking forward to catching up with family and sharing tails of his time away, the meditating and spirit questing he had done.

Finally the moment came and he rolled sideways using his staff to slow his accentrolling on impact and into a storm drain opening. It would be a good ten minutes before he reached the air at this steady run. Or maybe a little less the purple clad turtle was very eager to get to the lair!

"Yeah, I mean Dad knows I can protect myself but... but... he still worries when I am out." April sighs, true it was overbearing and annoying and felt crowding... but she secretly loved the attentiveness because...

because it was her dad and she had lost him a couple of times and she just reveled in these moments. Patiently taking it all. Bearing it with fake complaints and grumbles, adoring he cared so much.

Splinter was not fooled he chuckled and his ears twitched, "You are loving it aren't you?" he guessed and moves towards the lair exit with her. "Thank you for coming with and helping with the eggs, they are a curious thing. I hope answers become clear for Leonardo and his friend in regards to their little charges because of it."

He did not know if it would help or that the hard drive a very important piece of hardware was trackable by those whom might be looking for the little boys.

Trekking maybe through a few more paths than necessary but he enjoyed the moments of retracing old paths. Wondering which of his brothers were home. Leo probably still. Maybe Mikey or Raph?

He missed them.

Sending a text ahead - to all t phones he was five minutes from the lair.

[color=#FFD700]"Oh I am - its great - though it might mean a closer college - not that I would go far anyways with you alllll -" he phone and Splinters buzzed.

She drew hers out of her pocket. "Ahh!" she says gleefully hoping on the spot in glee. " Donnie is coming home!"

And his half a cheeky humored response died and he lifts his own tphone up - up confirming.

Don was on his way!

Tail flicking in excitement Splinter gave his tphone to April, "Do we answer or wait at the ticket barrier?" He wonders playfully grinning at the red haired.

Having typed half a happy reply to his intelligent son.

"both- we can wait and answer and talk!" April beams excited pushing the answer for Splinter before grabbing his elbow to drag him in the direction.

An answer!

Donatello hoped over some tunnel debris grinning, [color=#6633cc]" ah hello hello! I am on my way home! Be glad to be there and have a real coffee! How are you dad?!" Yes excited, "Leo there!? And ICK?! - tell me Timothy didnt defrost at all..."

That adorable geek voice! April squeees

Maybe that saying 'distance makes the heart grow fonder' was more than a little accurate, she had not known until then just how much she missed him!

"Leo's not home right now Don -" then hastily, "We'll tell you when you get here. Mikey and Raph aint back from their solos either - but timothy and IceCreamKitty are both as much frozen still."

Rushing her answers hearing and echoing his excitements dragging Spinter with her to the turnstiles to meet Don when he got there.

Hearing this Donnie frowns a little, Leonardo had not gone off on a solo as far as he knew - but then again maybe he had after they all left. He shrugs his face easing into a grin, a love struck goofy one. "I see... well I am -"He was just rushing head long around the last turn and

literally floated the rest of the way - there - there she was! and Splinter

!!

"Dad!!" He shouted gleefully. "April!" running at them his t phone forgotten catching them both in a tackling hug as he leaps the turnstiles.

Splinter laughed out loud - there was certainly a huge weight of relief lifted off shoulders as Donatello crashed into them - Splinter careful to brace himself and keep April from being crushed by the force of his intellectual sons enthusiasm, returning the group hug nuzzling the olive green bald head with snout.

"It is very very good and welcoming to see you as well Donatello." he murmurs. Immensely pleased, one more son back. Well Leo sort of Splinter thought he may as well travel with Donatello and April to see Leonardo as he could always let the Mighty Mutanimals and Kirby know so they could tell Raphael and Michelangelo when they come home where to find everyone.

As much as he wanted to wait here he felt it would be time for him to visit the farm and see it for himself.

HAH!

Donnie was there! home and there1 April hugged him and Splinter back leaning up to kiss Don's cheek, "Your home! I am so happy! been so boring with out yous here!" She chatters excitedly drawing back a little in the group hug to eye Donnie critically, 'And you look taller and lankier than ever!" She adds with grin.

"You must tell us everything!"

churring pleased with the affection Donnie reluctantly released them from his hold and snorted at April's words, "I have?" standing taller he liked being so tall! "Good - though I am not lanky you know... I'm svlete !' he mock indignantly defends smiling and nodding. "I do have some crazy adventures to share. Indeed. though most could probably wait until we are all together again... man I missed yous." He grabs them back again for a hug and lets go.

"So whats going on out at the farm?" He wonders curiously. 'And I could use a coffee, been too long since had a coffee.' He adds the addict in him had given up on the road now came to life with a vengeance wanting to be sated!!

Chuckling and before the teens knew so they would be holding each other Splinter begins to detach himself from the hug, a grin growing at Donatello's question. Glancing at April to quieten her answer. hoping once he gave his she would join in and not give away the game.

"Well Leo found some... things... important things... we'll see tomorrow - I think it is time I see the farm and your brothers Raphael and Michelangelo can join us out there, besides your brother will need our... enthusiastic support in this... thing..." He hedges on purpose not only filling Donatello in, but teasing him with lack of details at the same time moving towards the kitchen to make the coffee and tea.

Whhhaaat no they were not going to tell Donnie out right?! no way!

April was bursting- literally bursting to voice it but held herself in check just, barely. Barely... and only just

Maybe she could show Donnie the eggs and he would put two and two together and make four. "Yeh we will catch them tomorrow." and all would be revealed! she wanted to squeal, desperately wanting the night to be over and out there so curious herself!

"Ooooh cooooome on - ya gonna be like that huh?" Donnie loudly complains though he was still grinning. It was an awesome feeling being missed!

Especially by April!!

Perhaps he should go away more often just to come back and have that feeling more? - then he realised that would be hard because he simply loved being around her anew once more!

"Not even a hint!?" He tries to weedle big brown eyes and all glad Sensei was making coffee and tea! mmmmm his nose could smell the liquid ambrosia beginning to boil.

Chuckling April nods, "You bet it's going to be like that." she warns, "though there may be a hint or two..." or a few more.


Well as far as the eggs shells went.


She knew Donnie would call Leo soon and it was possible the leader might blow the whole thing. Or he may too be feeling a bit puckish and keep it from Donatello to find out when they traveled to the farm. "Glad you are coming with us Sensei, the farm is nice. And secluded and a great Sanctuary." though she did not know the last bit was not entirely true no more.

Snickering a little under his breath Splinter used a few quiet moments to make the tea and coffees smiling as he gathered up fresh filled cups that steamed and wafted delicious smells up his nose and brought them over to the bench that served at the table for their family. "Yes that is exactly what we are going to do, tease you with some hints and not give it all away. Even more for you and Leonardo to catch up on whilst awaiting for Raphael and Michelangelo to also come home."


It would be a wonderful thing for all his sons to be together again. Especially when in his gut he sensed there was danger on the horizon considering the smaller turtles.


And he was keen to see them for himself.

"so soooo not fair, but yous have me a coffee so for now ... artially fogiven." Donnie mock grumps and glares at this father and the girl of his dreams but chuckling as finally that wonderful sip of liquid ambrosia makes its way down his throat and into his belly drawing a deep deep sigh fro the coffaholic within.


"Mmmm so what are these hints? and you'll love the farm dad, its so peaceful and... we were so out of place there the first few months, so much so the city slickers." he chuckles amused recalling their first attempts at farming and cleaning domestically.

"Haha yeah no kidding!" April giggled madly, the one whom was more comfortable at farming was Leo... after he awoke and slowly regained his strength and speed... and later use of his leg. "Mikey running away from the chickens hehehe bloody hilarious."


And making a dramatic 'phew' gesture at being 'forgiven' April giggles, "Well that is a relief... and also an interesting tidbit for future knowledge if I ever wanted to set a trap for you Don, load it was coffee." teasing him and winking at Splinter. "He's not wrong though, you will enjoy the farmhouse and farm."


Donnie's request for the clues made her chuckle and she gestures with a hand towards the lounge floor. "Well I am in the process of putting them back together, wanna join me?" She nods towards the pit.

Chuckling and following the youths Splinter smiles. "I believe it will be all you say my son, as I hope to retire in such a place, grow old, perhaps even grow a garden... but we'll see."


A grin nodding to the egg shells and the pit on the loungeroom. "You should call Leonardo too whilst we have some quiet and you are now room, he has missed and worried for you all so much out there on your own."

Chuckling and nodding heading towards the pit and hoping down into the lower levelling Donnie eyes the broken pieces of - well it looked like shells to him. Egg shells but they were very big!

He did not understand how they could be much of a clue without more to go on but he was happy to plonk himself near them with April and with his fresh hot cup of coffee to give it a go putting them back together with April, maybe even there would be some residual coating on the inside he may be able to scrap for DNA?


"I would gladly walk into such a trap April, shhh tell no one." a wink and grin at his father. " Not looking to retire just yet I hope dad?.... hmmmm do either of you know what came out of these eggs?" maybe a little bit of worry in his tone. But he thought he understood. And it would be a beautiful place to do so.

" we cannot tell you right now Donatello what came out of the eggs, but it is a clue." Splinter sits comfortably on the cushioning in the lounge area of the family room watching Donatello begin, thinking over his question. "When your brother is ready to fully take over being Sensei of the clan I will step down my son. And he is very close to being entirely emotionally and physically prepared for that."


Maybe there would be more for him to do in his retirement but he held onto that little bit of information. Sides he knew the youngings were not planning on it but judging by the first part of the phone call he shared with Leonardo the night before that might be inevitable.

April grinned at Splinter. " You now I could so see you pottering around a garden of some sort and meditating and katas in a quiet place like that." as of yet she had no idea her family home and the hideaway for her now larger family was at the moment compromised.


Donnie's next question made her grin wider and at him a very teasing note in her tone. "Wellll we have a few ideas... none of which we are going to share before seeing Leo though." yep totally teasing.


And watching knowing she had missed Donnie so wondering if it was time she stopped dragging him along?

That made Donnie tilt his head a little in deep thought. " How will you know when though?" he was also a bit worried maybe their father was feeling his age. Though he did have a brief mental image of the rat man dottering about in a garden and chuckled a bit with a sip of his coffee, yeah that was a adorable image.


He new the solo missions had been a way to prepare them for times they would be without Leonardo to guide them and possibly one day even either striking out on a team of their own under Leo's command or taking over. Still he had not guessed they may also have been Splinters way of beginning to get them more used to being without him as their safety net.


He didn't like it but knew it was all a part of the growing up they were still doing. And back to the shells he was handling gingerly sniffing, running fingers over marveling at the colors. "Dammmmmmn oh come on! another hint?" sipping more coffee and trying to weasel more info out of his father and the girl he had loved since the moment he saw her.

"There is no way to guess Donatello - I will just feel it... in here." Splinter moves closer to the pit and shuffles closer to watch April and Donatello try to put the pieces of shell together.


"You may need to call Leonardo, Donatello, tell him you are home and safe." The master rat encourages, Leonardo had missed his brothers terribly and worried even more out on their own without him with only momentary calls here and there to fill him in and reassure him that they were doing okay and still alive.

A chuckling listening to them and unknowingly having the same mental image of a hppy aged rat mutant pottering about in some garden, probably growing his own vegetables and fruits and dotting on grand children... which she was certain he already thought of the little once occupants of these eggs as and hoped for more.


A firm stern grandfather teaching ninjitsu to the next generation, but who was also very kind and sweet and the sort that gave cookies and other sweets with parents where not vigilante.


She shakes her head at Don's teasing whine for more and pokes out her tongue, "Not on your life call Leo." she grins.
