Ouchies for red...? What was... White and brothers, then no white and no brothers... All those scars he had. And his almost malnutrition when he arrived... All the pieces are starting to fall together.

And Leo freezes. And he's beginning to understand... Shell. A lab.

And he feels his blood boil, though he keeps it carefully hidden from the child.

It also seems that he's confused Duncan.

"I think I might have confused you, Buddy. Most people only have one dad. One guy who's special to you and takes care of you."

No wonder Don made the choices he had. Leo had rarely felt quite so hot under the shell. You can't let them fall into the wrong hands. That's all they've ever known.

DAMN! THEM!

"If you want... you can call me dad." And he'll do it. He gets it now. He understands.

Leo hadn't realized what he was going to say until the words were out of his mouth. He's almost shocked he said them.

He pulls Duncan close. Hugs him securely. A silent promise to keep the child safe.

Raph tries not to chuckle at his counterpart squeezing the stuffing out of his brother. But his attention is drawn back to Little Blue and the toddler. Raph shifts his hand, seeking out Lilo's.

He's frowning. Not quite sure what the 'ouchies for red was', or maybe he just didn't want to admit that he knew, but it seemed that Little Blue had put some pieces together. Raph can almost see the anger radiating off the other turtle. Though Leo is still speaking softly and gently, keeping the anger hidden from Duncan.

Guy has one heck of a poker face.

ooooooh Duncan nods nods and thinks back to when Leo explained what a mother was.


He is watching Leo's face waiting with a little bated breath, hopeful. It was no secret he preferred Leo, Leonardo and Raphael played with him, gentle and didn't let him hurt himself, and Raph might not pay him much heed but he too didn't let him or the females hurt themselves.


But he preferred to sleep close to Leo, trotted around after him when they walked and was usually not too far away from him.


And there it is his little tail goes crazy and his backside with it he is doing a little happy dance - and more hug!


" yesssh Dad! please! dad dad dad dad da-" the rest of his happy chanting lost in the hug because he nuzzled into neck and shoulder crook.

It was a strange trichotomy of emotions.

First there was the ecstatic toddler in his arms. And it was hard not to get swept up in that sort of joy. He nuzzled the child back, still holding him tightly.

Second there was a fair chunk of worry about how this was all going to play out. He was still concerned that this wasn't truly a feasible thing for him to be doing, but... what else was he going to do? Sure, Addy said he didn't have to... but...

DAMMIT!

And finally, there was that. That horrible burning. Somewhere, in some dimension out there was a lab. One that had held and experimented on and tortured these... babies.

Exactly like Master Splinter had done everything he could to protect him and his own brothers from. Leo couldn't in good conscience let that continue. And if this sort of bond could even potentially lessen that possible outcome? So. Be. It.

Addy and Lilo had boogey man creatures like trackers. Lions or wolfmen who would track them, hunt them down and murder them. Natural predators of larger prey.

Leo's boogey man had always been a man in a coat with a syringe.  Duncan had lived Leo's childhood nightmares.

But they need to get moving, and Leo needs to think about something else. When he speaks his voice nearly betrays the thundercloud in his eyes that he's hiding from Duncan. Slightly lower, slightly gruffer than usual. Not enough to scare the child that he is still gently nuzzling, but the adults may pick up on it.

"Let's go."

He doesn't put the child down just yet. Once the boy is ready he will, but in the meantime... Leo is content to carry him for the moment. Leo moves closer to Addy. It's still dark, and she is the one who can see best in this low light. His positioning is a silent "Lead on."

And Duncan is still estatic! he was wanted! yay!


And is a bundle of huggy, nuzzling waggy tail ness up in Leo's arms. Happily chit chatting in that toddler way of mixed nonsense and actual words. Mostly words he'd learned and about Elena and Liam. Much reassurances that he, Duncan, will be good boy for dad.


Their care, Leo's care had changed the toddler immensely since landing here, he knew more, spoke more, had some actual baby pudge to his body and all his scars had faded. His color brighter too with actual sunlight on top of the adequate food and water - he notes Leo get closer to Addy and happily says to her encase she missed it, " Dad." an arm about Leo's shoulder the hand clutching his stuffed fish. The other held out to her expectantly and he was not disappointed she gave him another bit of dried stringy meat to chew on.


Oh he was a very very happy boy.

Addy doesn't interfere in the moment and hangs back not quiet understanding much about the ouchies for red but it meant something to Leo. And she could sense the burn. Smiling at the hugging and the delight and relief and joy the young boy radiated in his. Chuckling and giving him food the moment the hand came her way and -


Not sure what to say to Leo, if anything.


But she gave him a smile and nod, " on our way... Dad." a gentleness to her tone she was pleased for him and the very happy little boy. And she sets off again.

Lilo like Addy was a little in the dark on some things, And she was puzzling but Raph's hand stopped her thoughts and she smiles at him her thumb brushing his knuckles and tail brushing over his shell. Ready when the others were to move.


And she is fighting giggles at Raphael and Leonardo.


She and Addy could pick up on the change in scent on Leo that indicated a strong emotion and if she knew him more as Addy did she might know it was anger. But she mostly only guessed.


Smiling at him and the little guy.


It was always a wonderful thing when a new family was created. No matter how.


Glad they were moving again and giving Raph's hand a tug and squeeze so they'd fall in behind Leo and Duncan.

Leonardo feels his own anger and knows by the growl Raphael has the same surge. And if Leo had not offered he and Rapahel probably would have scrambled over each other to fill the role. Because they genuinely care for the little turtle.


And to know the sweet little boy had lived the life he and Raphael could not remember in the lab in their early days as hatchlings. And sort of life Splinter kept them out of once they had been set free by their hogosha April ... struck all sorts of cords.


He is brief in squirming free of his massive brother to move past Leo to get into a position to bring up the rear and lightly knuckle his counterparts shoulder, part well done and part we got your shell dude. However that may be needed.


Raphael distracting himself ... barely from his own anger and now not squishing his big brother he is falling in behind them. Glad as a hatchling in a lab he had little to no memories of that time.

Leo chuckles softly at Duncan’s chatter and his promises.

“I know you will, Buddy. And you’ll still be wanted even when you’re not good.” Because... Leo is pretty sure that has never been the case for the little guy before.

He is letting the child’s energy eat away at the anger and worry, and gives Addy a slight smile. He is sort of glad she hasn’t said anything else. He doesn’t really want to deal with a conversation just yet anyway.

Leo glances over as his counterpart chucks his shoulder. And there’s a slight nod of ’thanks/message received’.

Well... so much for Duncan walking! He continues to hold the child for the time being as they set off again. It just seems wrong to put him down right now.

It took Raph a little longer than the others to make the connection they had made so readily. Unlike them, he hadn't exactly grown up with the same stigma against humans. They were hidden as children sure, but... apparently not like these guys. And when it does click, he frowns again.

He does smile slightly when Little Blue finally accepts being Duncan's dad. As far as he's concerned, Duncan had been Leo's kid all along. Though, Raph did sort of know that they hadn't actually been together that much longer than any of them.

It's unlike him, but he does manage to keep his yap shut. Even though it was really a congratulations he had for Leo... the guy didn't really seem interested in hearing it. Instead he just let Lilo pull him into position as they started moving again.

Lilo grin a little at Raph and now their between the big Leo and Duncan and the two big big turtles she is admittedly feeling very safe even if their heading slowly off the mostly open and clear grounds of the hot springs and into the mouth of the falling down into dark valley.


" We should stick to the eastern side of this valley the lower foothill caves openings looked like they be down there." she tells Addy in front and Leo.

" thanks Lilo."


A grin over her shoulder and a softer sort of look at Leo and Duncan her eyes as they leave the more well lit and open area for the dense foliage of the valley glowing in the remaining light cause her puplis had widened, reflecting all the light they possibly could and she is then leading them into the dark.


But not quiet the jungle was never quiet around them animal sounds and the calls of a neighbouring troop of wildermann. Lilo she felt more than saw shrank against raph a bit, if she was caught on another troops territory she could face harsh punishments Addy knew. Though it was also possible travelling as guide among Genio Innocuo might save her from more than a reprimand.


Her ears flicker and she is sniffing and leading on pathways that were narrow and winding and realising she and Lilo made the most noise - aside from chatty little Duncan.


Dang ninjas could move very very quietly. Almost soundlessly!

This pleased Duncan and he blissfully snuggles into Leo for a moment murmuring happily, " noo zzzzst nooozzzst." though it would take a while for his behaviour to ever reflect the no fear of being painfully zapped for stepping out of line.


Which used to be crying to loud or any sort of a sign of a tantrum, any defiance and not doing as told. Asking for more food.


though that last one he was overcoming quicker thanks to Addy instinctively giving him something to chew on any time he held out his hand or even made a indication he might be feeling snacky.

Once they were in the foliage his chatter become more about enjoying the word Dad and the attention he could garner from Leo all the more - especially when something pretty caught his eye and he would point or reach for it and ask, like the massive web spun between two trees. The forming dew on leaves.

As they walk, Leo has opened his senses to his surroundings. The island really is quite beautiful... when you're not fighting against it. So far he hasn't noticed anything that seems to be paying them too much mind. Though there does seem to be some nervous energy coming off of Lilo. He glaces back to see if she's okay. He's not sure what that's about.

Leo isn't sure what Duncan was staying with the no zzzzst thing until he repeated it.

"No, no more zzzst." The 'yeouch!' that echoed in his head following the sound was definitely Donnie's voice. Younger though, Don hadn't accidentally electrocuted himself lately. And Leo froze momentarily as he realized what Duncan had been saying. That he didn't growl and scare the child took almost more composure than even Leo can lay claim to. He glanced back to the larger turtles to see if they had gotten what he had out of the sound.

He can't let that consume him at the moment though so he keeps his senses open and pokes Duncan in the beak after the little guy calls him Dad again. "Son."

There's another glance back at Lilo.

"Hey, is everything alright?"

Raphael does get it. And he cracks a branch off a tree and uses it and his sai to carve a wooden machete for some way to let his anger go.


He hopes how ever this adventure ends and if somehow the tots end up back where they started that Leo and his brothers find them and make the humans with them pay for it.


And a wooden machete would be useful for clearing some of the waaahhh uuurgh. Duncan pointed out the web and there spread in the middle was a actual spider, though nexus ones looked a bit like camel spiders. Giant sized and gross.

Duncan is all but blissful about that. No zzzsst!


He yay's and nuzzles into Leo's neck and shoulder crook happily mumbling, " Duncan be happy... and love daaad." sounding out the word a little again, enjoying it!


And here he could chirp in joy eyeing Addy and Lilo.

Dawwwww. She is distracted and moment at Duncan and chuckling, and then blinking a little and smiling when she hears Leo must have picked up on Lilo's nervous sort of energy she was giving off.


" She's nervous, we've left her troops territory and she might get punished... though because she's with fabled Genio Innocuo its possible it wont be worse than a telling off." she fills in the guys.

Soooo her sort of nervously walking closer to Raph and refusing to drop hand hold - even more so because she enjoyed the hold as well as being a little nervous...


She nods at Addys explanation, " I'm a tad nervous yeah... sorry am I wigging other out two?"



Angry Leonardo smiles, tightly but it was a smile, " It's fine, a welcoming distraction and if we run into trouble I'll be happy to play up the Genio Innocuo angle."


Might even present an opportunity to relief the anger and tightness somewhere in a fun relaxing way. Because he had been angry on behalf of Leo and Duncan, very much so for the abuse the little guy and suffered.

"Uncool, man..." Raph mutters under his breath at the Zzzst comments and when Little Blue looks back to see if the others had caught what the child had meant. Even he had caught that one. And that's messed up. Who zaps kids? He might have squeezed Lilo's hand slightly harder than intended when he spoke. Not enough to hurt, but definitely there.

Raph won't leave her hanging though. If she prefers to hold his hand, who would he be to complain?  Especially if it helps relieve some of her nerves. Makes him feel kind of special. It's sort of a nice distraction from the realization that the kid has been electrocuted.  Apparently repeatedly.

"Maybe we can just avoid them?" Raph suggests.

Though it's unlikely they'll be able to completely avoid a large group like Lilo's troop had been.

"I love you too, Duncan." Leo pulled the child close again as they continued down their path. His anger receding for the moment as Duncan snuggled against him. It was hard to stay mad with a happy child in your arms. Though, Leo was sure that the anger would return later.

"No, Lilo. It's alright. Leo reassured. She was allowed to be nervous. And it did seem that she had a good reason.

For the most part, probably." Leo agreed with the smaller Raph. "Still, always good to have a back up plan." Though Leo doesn't like to play the Genio Innocuo card, he will do so if it helps Lilo.

"And we can take care to avoid the wildermann when we can now that we know to do so." Leo reassured.

He knows he should probably put Duncan down to walk for awhile, but... he's loath to after finding out more about what the lab had been doing to the child. No... he will carry the boy a little longer.

Lilo rarely showed temper.


In fact she'd taken part in some troop boundary protection bits sometimes so her want to do a wildermann let go of anger about the little boy - she didn't have to understand zzzst was some form of way too harsh punishment for the little guy to know he had been hurt.


Now she understood why he was so well behaved for a toddler who until now didn't speak too well. Most toddlers would have become frustrated with their lack of language, would have had more temper tantrums or been or boisterous... it hurt her inner kid loving self to know all that had been taken from him in fear of being hurt.


So the nervousness was helping keep her own temper down. She smiles at the harder squeezing and presses a little closer as they walked. Not minding the pressure. ' well as long as we don't make too much noise they might not even care I am here and certainly less so thanks to you guys. So yes please lets avoid where we can." she was happy about that and it did settle her a bit further smiling at the little boy in Leo's arms.

Siiiiigh Leonardo didn't like the rage that filled him, it was the sort that filled him at Sack's bullshit.


" At least as unmutated hatchling we have no memory of our time in the lab." he mutters to the grown ups. Possibly Duncan would not understand that all and all for the better. And yes Leonardo was suddenly very glad before the fire and being set free by the then child April he'd had no way to recall all the experimenting. And to be fair he was aware the worst of it was simply being poked with needles and given the mutagen.


He smiles at Raph and Lilo she took comfort in him and he seemed content with the hand holding, " agreed, avoid and if we must play up the reverence. mmmmm buuut what would it take to get the female troop angry about the hunters in their territory?" It miiight be a ploy they could use against their hunters.

" no damned kidding bro, no kiddin." Raphael grunts his wooden machete taking shape.


Raising an eyeridge at his brother, this sounded interesting. And he wondered what Raph and Leo would think of this budding idea. glancing towards Addy and Lilo.

Addy slowed a little to grin at Leo and Duncan, maybe a tad more fangs then she meant to, but she is genuinely happy for the pair of them, though she manages not to go all cat like and rub against the pair.


She leads on their in the depths of the shrubbery now and she flicks an ear listening as Leonardo voices something quiet intriguing.


Though it could be dangerous.


" I mean I'd prefer not to but maybe if there was a chance to use such a moment as a distraction to our advantage to take out our trackers if needed to we might want to consider it. Or at least know more as a plan b sort of strategy."


Ah that she understood.

“You guys were created in a lab?” hunh... “Actually that explains why you’re huge...”
There's a beat of almost quiet. "What about you, Little Blue? Lab or sewer tunnel?"

Raph squeezed Lilo’s hand again, more reassuring this time. He isn’t thrilled about this plan that seems to be make it obvious that Lilo is here, but if they come across them anyway, they might as well use it if they can.

“We’re not purposely using her as bait for this other troop, right?” He doesn’t think they are, but just to be sure. Because Raph will have something to say about that.

Leo was sort of on Raph's side of that first question and comment. "Master Splinter says it was a tunnel... I guess technically a storm drain..." Leo commented. "Canister fell out the back of a truck."

"Ditto. Well... Something like that. Don't know where it came from. Wait, you don't remember?"

"Uh... no. I was just a hatchling."

"Hunh... hurt like the dickens, probably better off not remembering."

Leo nodded, not strictly listening. His attention is far more divided. He's trying to pay attention to their surroundings, but there's a child and a conversation that keep trying to drag him back. He keeps one sort of tendril on their surroundings and starts paying more attention to the group he's with.

"Even if we were sure it would just be a telling off, I'm disinclined to take risks with Lilo, but if this troop is anything like hers, they'll probably find us anyway. And if that happens... we might need as much help as we can get. Either way, I want to know more about what we're dealing with first." Basically, he's interested in recon first. He doesn't want to risk Lilo or this other troop to fight their battles if it can be avoided.

" A troop of female wildermann will attack if their young are threatened. A territorial scruff is usually short and though might be harsh the punished and punishers are likely to walk away mostly unscathed. Unlike a threat to their children. If a little one is hurt they will really go to town."


She adds, [color=#996633]" If the hunters try something we could probably take advantage of such a situation otherwise lets just do the recon and leave the troop alone if they leave us alone." she is speaking soft and leading on  pausing to listen and sniff now and then and not moving to far from Leo, also she was hoping by lowering her voice more the others would too, though no one was loud, still they were heading deeper and she could here there were entities moving about and smell marking scents.


Specifically she was trying more to pick out any movements of large predators nearby.

Leonardo nods, " sort of, I think our mutation was a unintended side affect judging by one of our creators, Eric Sacks reaction when he caught up with us, from what he told us whilst draining our blood was that he and an evil crime boss, Oroku Saki employed scientists to use a substance we since learned came from dimension x to try and create a cure all. So that they could release all manner of pathogens upon people and get the money for cures and vaccines. Anyways Mr O'Neil learned the plans behind his research was a good person, got cold feet and tried to destroy everything, I assume he was going to steal us, he was shot and killed by Sacks. The fire went out of control and Mr. O'Neil's daughter, our guardian angel, barely a child at the time came to our rescue and set my brothers and I and Splinter loose into the sewers." He is whispering and is cutting as much out of the story as he can to make it quick.


A nod at Raph, " Donatello thinks our size does come down to that yes, the cure all unchecked and outside lab conditions ran with the dna samples it collected from humans that had handled us and well we mutated, along with Splinter." a bit of a grin at Raph and Leo and now that explanation over he listens to the ideas and nods.


" I'd prefer to not use troop help at all or incite anything. If we can we'll avoid it. If not we just got to make sure they see us and Lilo as allies in any problems that may arise and not the enemies. I don't much like the idea of using Lilo." Whilst he is trained to spot an advantage and bring it up with his team, didn't mean he particularly likes them.

Duncan is content -


Raphael sniggers and nudges Leo and Raph a little, " Leonardo is deliberately not going into detail of how we got out of that situation. Cause high as a kite on a massive dose of adrenaline Leo here .... wanted to clean..."


He is sniggering and ignoring Leonardo's pointed look.


Duncan has no idea what is said, barely understands it, but he giggles seeing the looks between Raphael and Leonardo. And he could giggle deeply he was very safe feeling and happya nd recognising Addy's drop in volume his own happy chatters and chirps to Leo had lowered to content purr like churrs and he didn't mind Leo was not putting him down. Happily whispering to Sish that dad loved him, he loved dad and that Sish smelled good.And some half toddler speak about Liam and Elena, Randal and Malcolm.

Leo listens to Addy's' information and agrees with her assessment. His nod is non-verbal, but if he had objections he would have voiced them. And with the conversation winding down he opens up his senses again.

It sounds like their counterparts were lucky to escape the lab, though Leo doesn't voice that. Not with all the other creatures that are moving around in this area. Though he does chuckle silently at the high and wanting to clean something. Leo's pretty sure he hasn't really had that particular 'pleasure,' and he honestly isn't sure how he would react.

Duncan is being surprisingly quiet, having picked up on the softened tones of the rest of them, apparently. He nuzzles the child and chuckles silently again at his whispered chatterings to Sish. He sighs and whispers to the boy.

"Are you ready to walk for a little while?" He doesn't really want to put Duncan down just yet, but they probably do want him to burn off a little energy before letting him get too settled again.

Duncan is still chattering and whispering when Leo nuzzles him and distracts him happily from his conversation with the stuffed fish. his tail wags and he nods, " mmm kaaaay but like hugs morrrre." he grins but he is energized for a bit of walking... or probably on his behalf mostly bouncing and jogging.

A smile at the lowering of tones and that making it easier to listen around them, for anything coming or going and she slows a bit more to watch Leo and Duncan, a soft flick of her tail over Leo's shoulder -


" you have made him happier than a Bauerschwein in mud." giggle, she'd not expected the tot to take so strongly to the stuffed fish but happy he had.

Lilo is pleased Raph spoke out and she is content with the answers, no intentionally drawing attention to her. Only if they end up needing to or it becomes unavoidable she was happy with that and thankful, especially to Raph smiling and brushing a lightly brush of lips to shoulder as they walk along moving further and deeper into this valley that lead to the island ground level, deeper jungle and after some trade good gathering off to the port.


Hopefully ahead or having dealt with their hunters by that time and not having drawn too much attention from the local troop.


Though that might be unavoidable, Addy still smelled heated and good. Even to her sense of smell!


And any distant glance of 'Genio Innocuo' would draw attention.

Raph is watching the Leos. His own brother has a seeking look like they do, but somehow his own brother’s look is almost comical in comparison.

Somehow making fun of it on these two seems... unwise. So he actually doesn’t. And instead he follows along. He’s listening, but absolutely certain that the Leos will notice something long before he does. There’s a glance back at his own counterpart. Machete looks wicked.

He squeezed Lilo’s hand again when her lips brushed his shoulder. He enjoyed the little display of affection, but even he knows when it’s time to focus.

Leonardo grins, stepping slower his change in pace setting him behind the tail of the group and in a position to watch and listen a little more expecting Raphael to move forward with his improvised wooden weapon. Get closer to the head and be the breaking force needed to head their way through.


He is listening but for now they'd mostly made up their minds which way to go about the hunters and possibly the troop for now and he was content with that trusting to Addy and Lilo and Leo.


A smile towards the eager little guy waiting for the put down to run about. Another great reason to have Raphael up front in this moment.

Lilo grins she enjoys the comfort and his hand squeeze, the assuredy she felt the bigger turtle were not actually going to put her in harms way without due reason or cause and hopefully not at all and seeing as that would be the more peaceful option for them all she rather hoped the troop that looked after and held this land had seen the hunters and decided to abscond themselves along a border somewhere well out of range.


And they might have, it was slim, but might have if there were little little ones in the troop.


She senses the change in the line up as Leonardo falls back and Raphael moves forward, and she is happier here more beside Raph then in front or behind him.

"Yeah, Buddy. I don't blame you for that." He smiles and nuzzles Duncan again, not quite setting him down just yet as Raphael starts making his way to the front of the group.

Leo looks confused at Addy's words. A what now? "Is that like a pig...? He asks of the Bauerschwein.

Once Raphael is settled in the front and blazing the trail, Leo sets Duncan down between himself and Addy and reaches down for his hand.

"Stay close and quiet, okay?" Not that he really felt the command was necessary, but... he still felt a need to say it.

He then sort of glances back to Lilo.

"Do you think the caves or the hunting party is closer to where we started? He could see pros and cons to both collecting trade goods first or attempting to take out the hunting party first. They might as well start with the first thing they came across.

Addy nods, " A pig in mud... mmm hmm..." she grins down at Duncan behind her and then at the big turtle moving ahead she found it wasn't hard to guide him as they set off at an easy pace.


Easy for Duncan and Addy was glad for the shift in protection, probably why they'd done so. No one could get at Duncan she was sure now Leo close and the big turtles either end of the group.


" yes, you have made the little guy happier than a pig in mud. Only he is cuter than any piglet."

With the big guys at the front and back, Raph moves to the opposite side of the group from Little Blue, putting the girls and kid in the middle of their formation, though still close to Lilo. While the change makes sense, he can't help but wonder if there's a reason they did it now. Almost wondering if the Leos know something he doesn't yet. It wouldn't really surprise him either way.

Of course it could have been as simple as the fact that the kid is walking now, rather than being carried. But even City Turtle Raph can tell that this part of the island seems to be more heavily populated than the section they were leaving.

More heavily populated... but sort of strangely quiet for the apparent population.

Raphael let Addy steer- she was talking softly and he smirks a little, she loved the little guy, and Leo quiet obviously if her chasing away possible suitors was any indication and thankfully moving ahead he was away from her scent which was becoming stronger, she was clearly at the peak of the cycle and she smell damned good.


He was glad to be up front and travelling along the little path she set them on cutting with the shaped wooden machete when he needed to clear it and when Addy wanted to steer him she only had to push on his shell on the left or right to make him turn onto the new path noting by the darkness and shadows even though the canopy above was slowly growing lighter she was steering them to the valley walls and probably closer to the caves. He tries not to be nervous.

She could tease Raph in this walking along file with her tail - and only manages to do so flirty once in a while even with the sweet smell of Addy ahead definitely putting her in a flirty sort of mood.
